The first contest of the year is the annual essay contest. The winning entry were presented at the meeting of Wednesday February 11th. This years topic was "Optimism Should be a Priority" Front Row L to R Valentine Vena, 2nd place and Ryan Teevens, 3rd place Back Row L to R Lori Divis, Essay Contest Chairwomen and Mrs. Campagnoli, Divine Child High School English Department Chair Not pictured Brianna Roach, 1st place The Dearborn Optimist received over 40 essay entry from Dearborn area youth under the age of 19 who have not yet graduated from his school. The Essay Contest is sponsored by Optimist International
to give young people the opportunity to write about their own opinions
regarding the world in which they live. The approach can encompass a young
person’s personal experience, the experience of their country or a more
historical perspective. In additional to developing skills for written
expression, participants also have the opportunity to win a college
scholarship!
The guidelines require that contestants be under age 19 have not yet graduated from high school or the equivalent. The top three Dearborn Optimist winners receive a cash award funded by the Dearborn Optimist and the first place winner Brianna Roach will advance to the District contest to compete for a $2,500 college scholarship.
