We are once again sponsoring the annual Oratorical contest for all Dearborn students who are under age of 19 years as of March 13, 2013 and have not yet graduated from high school.  The competition, which dates back to 1928, is the longest-running program sponsored by Optimist International and is designed for youth to gain experience in public speaking and provide them with the opportunity to compete for a college scholarship.

The topic for 2013 is "Why My Voice is Important."

The contest is now scheduled for THURSDAY, March 7 at 3:30 pm in the Henry Ford Centennial Library Auditorium, located at 16301 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn, MI  48126.

The Club needs two to three volunteers to assist in judging the contest with criteria to include poise, content of speech, delivery and presentation, and overall effectiveness.  Please consider spending the afternoon of March 7th on the panel in this worthy endeavor for our youth.

Each winner will present his/her oratorical entry and be awarded a monetary gift ($500 for first place, $250 for second, and $125 for third) at the ceremony at the March 13th 12:00 noon Dearborn Optimist luncheon meeting at the Fairlane Club.
